Heaven Looks Good on You, Dad 🤍

Today is your birthday.

And somehow, I’m still learning how to celebrate with someone I can’t hug, call, or hear laugh the way I used to.

Grief is strange like that.

It doesn’t always come in loud waves anymore. Sometimes it’s quiet. Subtle. It shows up in the middle of ordinary moments, a memory, a song, a thought that catches you off guard.

And just like that… you’re missing them all over again.

If you’ve ever loved someone who is no longer here, then you understand this kind of ache.

The kind that doesn’t go away, it just learns how to live alongside your life.

But here’s what I’m learning…

Grief may stay, but so does love.

And somehow, so does peace. Not because the pain is gone,  but because God is present in it.

And I’m learning something else too, to know God is to know peace.

Not the kind of peace that erases the pain, but the kind that holds you steady in the middle of it.

The kind that reminds you that even when life feels broken, you are still being held together by something greater.

And love doesn’t end just because heaven gained someone, we weren’t ready to let go of.

I used to wonder how I was supposed to move forward without you.

How do you keep going when a piece of your heart is no longer here on earth?

But somewhere along the way, God started showing me something different.

That moving forward doesn’t mean leaving you behind.

It means carrying you differently.

In the way I live. In the way I love. In the way I choose faith even when it hurts.

Because if there’s one thing grief has taught me, it’s that God doesn’t waste our pain.

Even this.

Even the loss.

Even the questions we don’t have answers to.

Because when you truly know Him, you begin to trust that His presence is enough, even when His answers are not.

And somehow, in ways I can’t fully explain, that brings a quiet kind of peace to a grieving heart.

The Bible says in Psalm 34:18 that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

And I’ve held onto that on the days when my heart felt exactly like that, broken… and a little crushed.

Because even when I couldn’t feel Him, He was still there.

Sitting with me in the grief. Holding me in the moments no one else could see. Carrying me when I didn’t have the strength to carry myself.

So today… I don’t just mourn you.

I honor you.

I honor the life you lived, the love you gave, and the legacy that didn’t end when you took your last breath.

Because your impact didn’t stay in the past, it lives on in me.

In the way I’m choosing purpose over fear. In the way I’m building something meaningful out of the pain. In the way I’m showing up for my family with a deeper kind of love.

You’re still here, Dad.

Not in the way I wish… but in the ways that matter.

And to anyone reading this who is carrying their own grief,

I see you.

I know what it feels like to smile on the outside while your heart quietly aches on the inside.

I know what it’s like to miss someone in moments they should be here for.

But I also want you to know this:

You are not alone.

God sees your pain. He is near to you. And He is still working, even here.

And if you’re searching for peace in the middle of your grief, I’ve found that it isn’t found in having all the answers,  it’s found in knowing Him.

Because to know God is to know a peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances… a peace that stays, even when everything else has changed.

Even in the grief.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Dad 🤍

I miss you. I carry you. I trust that one day, heaven won’t feel so far away.

Until then… I’ll keep living in a way that makes you proud.

Always,

🤍 Raquel

“Grief may have changed my life… but it didn’t take my purpose. If anything, it revealed it.”

P.s. 🤍

If this spoke to you, or if today feels a little heavy, feel free to share in the comments.

Tell me their name. Tell me a memory. Let’s honor them together. 🤍

And if you’re walking through grief right now, you don’t have to carry it alone,  I would be honored to pray for you and with you.

Because sometimes healing begins simply by being seen… and being reminded that God is near in every broken place.

The people we love may be in heaven… but their stories are still being lived right here.
