“The Pressure to Be Everything (and Why I’m Letting That Go)”

Let me just say it:

I’m tired.

Not the “I need a nap” kind of tired…

I’m talking about the kind of tired that comes from trying to be everything for everyone.

Because somewhere along the way, I picked up this idea that I was supposed to be:

  • the perfect mom

  • the present wife

  • the successful student

  • the organized one

  • the strong one

  • the dependable one

  • the “she’s got it all together” one

And let me tell you…

That list?

It’s exhausting.

And the craziest part?

Most of that pressure…

Didn’t come from God.

It came from:

  • expectations

  • comparisons

  • social media highlight reels

  • and that little voice that whispers, “you should be doing more.”

But lately, God has been correcting me.

Not harshly.

Just clearly.

Because nowhere did He call me to be everything.

He called me to be faithful.

There’s a story that keeps coming back to me, the moment when Martha is running around trying to do all the things, while Mary is just sitting at Jesus’ feet.

And if I’m being honest?

I’ve always been Martha.

Busy. Moving. Managing. Making sure everything and everyone is taken care of.

But Jesus’ response?

Whew.

“Martha, Martha… you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed, or indeed only one.” - Luke 10:41–42

Translation?

You’re doing too much… and missing what matters most.

And I felt that.

Because how many times have I:

  • checked every box

  • showed up for everyone

  • handled all the responsibilities

…but still felt empty?

Because I was full of tasks… but running low on presence.
So, here’s what I’m learning in this season:

I don’t have to prove my worth by how much I carry.

I don’t have to say yes to everything to be valuable.

And I don’t have to run myself into the ground to feel like I’m doing enough.

I can let some things go.

Not because I don’t care…

But because I finally understand:

I was never meant to carry it all.

And let’s be real for a second 😂

Half the pressure I feel is self-created.

Like:

  • volunteering for things I could’ve said no to

  • overcommitting because I “don’t want to let anyone down”

  • trying to do everything at 100%… all at the same time

Ma’am.

Be serious.

So, this week?

I’m letting go of the pressure to be everything.

I’m choosing:

  • presence over performance

  • obedience over approval

  • peace over pressure

And maybe that looks like:
  • a simpler schedule

  • a slower pace

  • a “no” where I used to say “yes”

  • or just sitting down for a second without feeling guilty about it

Because at the end of the day?

God is not asking me to be everything.

He’s asking me to be His.

And that?

That’s enough.

I’m not doing everything anymore…

I’m only doing what God actually asked me to do.

And if that means less pressure, more peace, and a life that finally feels aligned?

Then yeah…

I’m choosing that. 💜

With less pressure, more peace, and a coffee I might actually finish hot,

Raquel 💜

Wow! How this resonated with me was mind blowing. Here I thought, “I’m the only crazy person who feels like I need to do everything!” Little did I know there are others. I would look around me and not see one person who does as much as I do and yet keeps it all together, how!? I don’t know but it’s as if it’s just expected now. Thank you for sharing and motivating me to but. A real in my step and focus on me too! I matter too!

Thank you so much for this… seriously. 💜 You are not the only one. I think so many of us are walking around feeling this exact same pressure, just not saying it out loud.

And I felt what you said about looking around and wondering how everyone else is doing it… I’ve been there too. But the truth is, we’re all carrying more than we show.

I’m so glad this reminded you that you matter, because you do. Not for everything you do, but simply for who you are.

And yes… take that step. Choose you too. 🤍 “One step at a time...we’ve got this 💜”
